Welcome to Nai Yu Doula Care

Rooted in the Grebo phrase “Nai yu,” meaning “my child,” this practice is born from a lineage of care that extends beyond family and into community. In the Grebo language of Liberia, spoken by my maternal family, this phrase embodies a way of being that is generous, nurturing, and deeply relational. It reflects a belief that care belongs to everyone and that we are all held in one another’s growth.

My name is Gabrielle Bass
I am a first-generation Liberian full-spectrum community doula from Staten Island, NY, now based in Brooklyn. I’m certified through Ancient Song Inc, where I had the honor of supporting low-income Black and Brown families at Queens and Elmhurst Hospitals through the HoPe Program. My additional training includes birthwork with Lifewerq Project, abortion with Ash Williams, childbirth education, perinatal mood disorders, infant massage, full-spectrum lactation education with Birthing Advocacy, and home birth assistance with Nubia Martin.

At Nai Yu, I offer care that is affirming, grounded, and culturally rooted. My practice centers the needs of queer individuals, immigrant families, and all birthing people, advocating for autonomy, connection, and collective care within our communities. I bring stability, calmness, joy, and affirmation into every space I enter, honoring the transformations that come with birth, loss, and all of life’s transitions.

To me, doula care is an extension of love, a reminder that care is continuous and that we do not walk these journeys alone.
